Enjoy a scenic float along the Salmon River

We invite you to get out of the car and feel the fresh, cool air on your face as you float down this tranquil, scenic 3-hour section of the Salmon River. Ride on a historical replica of a 30-foot long wooden scow, and enjoy an off-road view of the beautiful Salmon Valley on this unique, exclusive tour.

Natural history abounds here, easily seen in the geological remains of the cliff walls that line the banks. On any given day a mixed sampling of fauna will be present for your enjoyment and ospreys, eagles, hawks, blue herons and swallows nearly always make an appearance.

The Scow

Used in the late 1800s and early 1900s, these large wooden boats, called "scows" were used to haul freight for mines and supplies for folks who lived down in the isolated Salmon River Canyon. The first boats used by white settlers, this replica is 30 feet long, 8 feet wide and 4 feet deep with 28 foot long sweeps, and weighing in at 4,000 pounds, it is a mighty vessel.

Area History

For Lewis and Clark, crossing over the Continental Divide and down into the Lemhi Valley during the summer of 1805 was a planned strategic destination point that would shape the remainder of their journey. For Sacajawea, walking into the valley was about returning home, her family and birthplace. We'll share with you the facts, the stories and the landmarks of this great American adventure while floating down this gentle section of the River of No Return. The Salmon River Canyon was the only place on the entire Corp's journey where they were forced to retreat.
