What a great day of steelhead fishing. We caught eight on this day and three the day before.

What a great weekend of Steelhead Fishing. The folks at Idaho Adventures where 1st class. We had 2 guides. One Fri. 3 fish and 1 Sat. 8 fish and the bite was off. We where the only ones catching fish. Some how the picture locations are screwed up. Sat we caught the 8 about 12 miles below Shoup. What a beautiful day. Thanks again, my fish Gure.

Newmont Mine Employees Group Salmon River Rafting Trip
August 8 – 10, 2009

Join us for a fun and exciting family rafting and camping adventure! This journey will take you through approximately 45-miles of the Salmon River, “River of No Return”. The Salmon River is also recognized for being the second deepest canyon in the United States. The distractions of day-to-day city life simply do not exist here. At times you’ll plunge through rapids or gently glide through peaceful sections past remnants of Native American and early pioneer settlements – abandoned homesteads, cabins and early mines. The water is warmer than most mountain rivers, and there are plenty of rapids of varying difficulty from splashy Class II runs to more exciting Class III drops. You will camp along the river’s edge and your meals will be prepared by our highly skilled and darn friendly guides. The Dutch oven meals are among the highlights you will remember for years to come. All our guides are licensed and experienced and are there to make sure that your adventure is enjoyable and safe. Idaho Adventures has been showing guests the wonders of the Salmon River since 1973!

Group Rendezvous – August 7:
Arrive in Salmon and check into your motel the night prior to your trip departure. Enjoy the quaint western town of Salmon, Idaho. There are several options for your dining venue.

8 PM – Trip Orientation – meet at Idaho Adventures, 30 Courthouse Dr., Salmon, Idaho.

August 8 – Launch Day:
Meet at Idaho Adventures office at 8 AM for transportation to launch site. Spend the next 3 days having lots of splashy water fun.

August 10 – Final Day:
Take off the river around 3 PM, and then return to Salmon around 5:30 PM.

Price Includes:

• Lodging the night prior to your trip.
• Transportation, Salmon to Salmon.
• All meals and beverages while on the river, camping gear (tents, sleeping bags, etc.).
• Experience the Salmon River in a raft and/or in one of our inflatable kayaks.

Pre-Trip – Our Trip originates in Boise, Idaho. We meet the evening before, providing an orientation and discussion about your upcoming Owyhee River adventure.

Day 1 – Your journey begins at 7:30 a.m. with a drive to the Owyhee River Canyon, Rome Bridge. We pass lush farm lands, a historic stage stop and an entrance into the Owyhee canyon with a view of the “Roman Columns” huge stone pinnacles carved by historic river currents, wind and rain. We’ll float through few rapids this first day, but see enormous geological changes and a marvelous canyon entrance. We camp along the river’s edge on one of many natural beaches.

Day 2 – Enjoy a pot of coffee, made with freshly ground beans, a hearty breakfast and lets get going! With a wonderful Owyhee Canyon to explore we begin our day early. The currents speed up throughout the day and you will enjoy rapids like, Bulls Eye, Jay’s Rapid and Artillery, while the canyon walls fascinate us with its “Weeping Wall”, spring flora and resident wildlife.

Day 3 – What would you like to do today? Choose to sit and soak in natural hot springs or maybe explore “Rustlers Roost” & Chalk Basin. View the wondrous spires, hoodoos, and columns from the river or hike and explore as much or as little as you wish.

Day 4 – Just when you thought you have seen it all, the canyon walls narrows yet again and the walls protrude even higher as you enter Iron Creek Gorge, a truly breathtaking wilderness canyon. Still more rapids await us, with Montgomery Rapids getting the bulk of our rowing attention. Explore natural caverns and multiple Native American Petroglyphs sites and float by protruding rock walls rising 1900 feet above the river will fill a tremendous day.

Day 5 – For our final day the canyon opens slightly as we raft by old homesteads inhabited by hearty souls of Basque origin. The Owyhee River bends around the old “Pinnacle Ranch” where historic buildings and water wheels still stand. Further downstream our take-out awaits, either Leslie Gulch or Birch Creek, depending on weather and road conditions. We end our trip with a 2-hour shuttle back to Boise, Idaho.

For group trip on the Main Salmon River Wilderness Journey Trip Begins in Boise, Idaho:
Idaho Adventures depart Boise at Noon from the Holy Trinity Parking Lot (please eat before, we won’t be stopping for lunch). We’ll arrive in Salmon at approximately at 6PM the evening prior to your river launch. At 8PM we will have an orientation meeting at the Idaho Adventures Office to instruct guests on river/wilderness protocol, low impact camping, safety procedures and to distribute your dry bags to repack your gear and receive your personal drinking mug.

Transportation we provide:
We provide a bus or van to transport you from Salmon to the river put-in 2 hours downriver to Corn Creek. We take off the river on the 5th day at Carey Creek where a bus will be waiting to deliver you to Boise.

Trips Ends in Boise, Idaho:
Extended transportation packages with several air charter/van options for returning Salmon are available for your traveling convenience. Prices and information is listed in rates and dates.

June 30 – Day before:
Noon departure from Boise. Followed by a river orientation meeting at 8PM at the Idaho Adventures Office in Salmon, Idaho.

July 1 – Day 1 (Morning):
8:30AM – Bus ride from Salmon to Corn Creek put-in. Load and launch boats!

July 5 – Day 5:
Take out at Carey Creek about midday with lunch provided and depart Carey Creek around 1:30PM. Arrive in Boise approximately 7PM.

House Family & Friends – 5 Day Salmon River Journey Planning Information

What is the weather and water like?
The Salmon River Canyon is normally arid and warm from late May to late September with average daytime temperatures ranging from the 70′s to 90′s. Nighttime temperatures are cooler but comfortable, from the low 50s to high 60s. Summer water temperatures range from the 60s to 70s, perfect for rafting and swimming. May or early June is when river levels generally peak, but the Salmon is fed by enough tributaries to maintain a robust flow of water all summer long – even in low water years.

Fishing Licenses

Fishing Equipment
Rentals are available from Idaho Adventures. Advance reservations required.
